How Much Do Hair Extensions Actually Cost? An Honest Breakdown for Monrovia Clients

Pricing is one of the first things women want to know about hair extensions, and one of the hardest things to find a straight answer on. So let's talk about it openly, because you deserve to know what you're investing in before you ever sit in a chair.

If you've tried searching for hair extension pricing online, you've probably noticed that the range is enormous. You'll see everything from $200 to $3,000 or more, with almost no explanation of why the difference is so dramatic. That vagueness is frustrating, and honestly, it doesn't serve you well as a client trying to make an informed decision.

So here is a real, transparent conversation about what extensions cost, what drives that cost, and what the pricing at Crimson & Clover looks like so you can decide whether it's the right investment for you.

Why Extension Pricing Varies So Much

There is no single price for hair extensions because there is no single version of the service. The total cost is shaped by several factors that are genuinely different from client to client.

The hair itself. The extensions you wear are made of real human hair, and quality varies significantly. Higher quality hair moves naturally, blends seamlessly, holds color well, and lasts through multiple installs. Lower quality hair tends to tangle, lose its texture quickly, and often cannot be colored or heat styled. At Crimson & Clover, the cost of the hair is always included in your service price, so there are no surprise add-ons at checkout.

Your goal. Are you adding volume to fine hair? Adding length? Both? Each goal requires a different amount of hair and a different amount of time, which directly affects the price.

Your natural hair. Someone with fine, low-density hair requires a more thoughtful approach than someone with medium density. More care, more precision, and sometimes more time. A thorough consultation will take all of this into account.

The method. Different application techniques require different amounts of time, skill, and materials. Hand-tied weft extensions, for example, are a more labor-intensive process than tape-ins or butterfly wefts, which is reflected in the pricing.

The stylist's experience. A specialist who has dedicated their practice to extension work, who has trained extensively, and who has a deep portfolio of results will charge accordingly. This is one area where choosing the lowest price often leads to the most expensive outcome in the long run, (i.e having to buy a new set of hair due to tangling, damage to the scalp afer install leading you having to find a new stylist to fix it).

What Hair Extensions Cost at Crimson & Clover

Because every client's hair and goals are different, the hair extension cost is customized after a consultation. That said, here are starting points to give you a real sense of the investment, and all pricing includes the cost of the hair. Pricing can increase depending on the type of hair used.

Goal

Starting Price

Best For

Volume

$800 - $1200

Fine or thinning hair that needs fullness and density without added length.

Length

$1,500 - $2400

Adding significant length while maintaining a natural, blended look. Best for hair goals that are only 4 inches longer than what you have.

Extreme Length + Volume

$1,900 - $2800

A full transformation addressing both density and length for the most dramatic result. Best for hair goals that are more than 4 inches longer than your natural hair.

Your exact investment will be determined during your consultation, where we look at your hair in person, talk through your goals, and build a plan together. There are no surprises after the fact.

Why the Hair Is Included in the Price

Some salons quote a lower service price and then charge separately for the hair, which can make the final bill feel like a shock. At Crimson & Clover, the hair is always included in what you're quoted. It means the price you hear during your consultation is the price you pay. Transparency matters, especially for a service at this investment level.

What About Maintenance?

Extensions are not a one-time investment. They require maintenance appointments to keep them looking their best and to protect your natural hair underneath. Most clients come in every 4 to 8 weeks for maintenance, depending on the method, and hair type.

Maintenance appointments are a separate cost from the initial install, and your stylist should walk you through exactly what to expect before you commit to anything. Knowing the full picture upfront, including the ongoing investment, helps you decide whether the timing is right for you.

A note on "cheap" extensions: Extensions priced significantly below market rate are almost always cutting corners somewhere, whether on the quality of the hair, the method used, the experience of the stylist, or the time spent on the install. In the extension world especially, a low upfront cost often leads to damage, disappointment, and the expense of corrective work later. It is genuinely one of those services where the investment reflects the outcome.

Is the Investment Worth It?

That is ultimately a personal decision, and it is one worth sitting with honestly. Hair extensions are a meaningful financial commitment, and the right answer looks different for everyone.

What I can tell you is that for the women I work with, the return on that investment tends to go well beyond the physical result. They stop avoiding photos. They stop throwing their hair up because it "doesn't do anything." They walk into rooms differently. One of my clients told me that having her hair back did something therapy could never do. That is not something I can put a price on, but it is something I see regularly.

If you are on the fence, a consultation is a low-pressure way to get a real answer for your specific hair. We can look at what is possible, what it would cost for you specifically, and whether the timing makes sense. No commitment required.

If you are in the Monrovia or San Gabriel Valley area and curious about what extensions could look like for your hair, I would love to talk. Consultations at Crimson & Clover are a real conversation, not a sales pitch. My Goal is always to inform and educate.
