Welcome to your Dream Hair

Your first night with extensions you may feel a slight amount of soreness due to having extra weight on your head. This should go away after the first night or two.

There should be no prolonged soreness during the week and your beads should never feel tight.

For the first week after a fresh install be sure to wear low ponytails so as not to pull on your beads while your scalp is getting used to this new tension on your
head.

I recommend using a shower cap when showering to protect your hair from getting wet

Washing

Brush out extensions using a wet brush prior to showering. Hold the hair in one hand and brush from the bottom, working your way up.

Shampoo gently between the rows or you can pin up each row and shampoo each separately from the nape of your neck up. Star by wetting the nape area and shampoo and rinse, then take down the row about and gently work shampoo in above the weft on your natural hair. Rinse and repeat on each row up to the top of the head.

Do not shampoo the extensions. Let the soap just rinse down the hair as you go. Be sure to work your conditioner up to the middle of your extensions and rinse thoroughly.

Only use professional brand sulfate free shampoos, NEVER drugstore brands. My top recommendation is always Davines, however Innersense , Kevin Murphy are great as well. When in doubt just reach out to me.

When rinsing your hair, be sure to split your hair down the center and rest it on your shoulders if they feel heavy. This may only feel heavy for the first week .

Use a leave in detangler right after your shower, before you start brushing out the extensions
using a wet brush or extension brush. I recommend Davines Oi oil, and  All in one Milk leave in, or jack winn vitamin silk, or innersense sweet spirit leave in spray.

Use only a couple pumps of oil on dry ends. During the winter  or dry months you'll need to oil about every other day.

Styling

Rough dry your hair 80% of the way (meaning no tugging at the extensions with a round brush or comb, just use your hands/fingers). This applies to blow dry bar salons as well.

Before you start to blow dry go in and feel between your extensions to make sure they are completely combed out with no tangles. Clip up your hair in horseshoe sections from bottom to top and gently blow dry with a flat brush or large round brush. A blow-dry brush will also help speed this process along.

Be sure never to tug on your beads.

Keep your irons at a reasonable level, nothing above 360 degrees. Remember the more you use excessive heat the shorter the life span of your extensions.

When brushing be sure to brush below the spine of your wefts. Brushing above and over the wefts can cause snagging or make the beads slip.

Recommended Brushes for extensions:

Wefts- Wet Brush, The Unbrush , Tangle Teezer

I-tips, Keratins- The Unbrush, Boar bristle and synthetic brush . stay away from wet brushes and the bulbs on the bristles will catch above the beads.

Sleeping

Its best to sleep with a bonnet at night to keep your hair from getting all over the place at night.  Roll your extensions into a low bun and then slip the bonnet over the bun and your head.

If you don't have a bonnet your can do braids or pigtails or one long braid.

Brush the extension hair out and then place in one or two loose braids or pigtails before bed to prevent tangling.

As your extensions grow out the braids will keep them from pulling in your sleep.

If you don't like the feeling of wearing pig tails in your sleep then you can gather your hair above your head and out of the way so you don't pull on it when you sleep.  I suggest doing this after a few weeks when your hair has grown out a bit.

Swimming in Bikini

Swimming

I do not recommend getting into a pool or saltwater with extensions as the chlorine and salt can excessively dry out your extensions and drastically shorten their lifespan. It can also cause your extensions to shorten in length.

However, if you decide to get your extensions wet anyway then here are some tips that can help prevent them from matting up or tangling due to salt and chlorine exposure.

Before going into the water pre wet your hair in the shower and apply a good amount of leave in conditioner or hair mask. This allows molecules to already start taking up space on your strands and can "water down" the saltwater and chlorine.

At the Beach or Pool be sure  to bubble braid your extensions to prevent them from tangling or matting. To do this you'll need several small elastics or rubber-bands. Create pigtails and on each tail and place rubber-bands an inch or two away from each other down the hair shaft.

Do not do actual braids. When the hair is braided and exposed to saltwater or chlorine it can create sever matting and tangling.

If you have blonde extensions make sure SPF sunscreen NEVER touches your hair as it will turn the hair pink.

After being in the water be sure to fully rinse and shampoo your hair, follow with a hydrating mask.

Many clients choose to get into pool water or the ocean when they know their extensions are ready to be switched out since they are already old.

Tips & Tricks

Shampoo about 2 times per week depending on your level of oiliness. If you feel you need to wash more often , roll the extensions in a bun leaving out the top half of your hair. flip head over in shower or sink and only shampoo your natural hair. This will drastically cut down on drying/ styling time!

Wash at night, let air dry for about 2-3 hours then use blow dryer right before bed to get completely dry. Then straighten or curl in the morning. This process could take an hour in the morning from soaking wet to styled. This will help you get ready faster in the morning!

Be sure to apply oil to the ends of your extensions  every other day to keep them hydrated. Remember, extensions have been highly treated and do not receive the same oils from your scalp that your hair does so it is very important to keep them hydrated and shiny.

Be sure to brush morning and night. If you wear bulky sweaters, or jackets your hair can easily get a little tangled  from rubbing against these items. Keep a small brush in your purse in case you need to brush on the go.
